Rum Sauce
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 325°F, then grease a bundt pan with nonstick cooking spray, and dust it with flour before setting it aside. In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt, then give them a good mix until combined, and add the softened butter, vegetable oil, and buttermilk.
Step 2
Beat them over medium speed for about 2 minutes until smooth and combined, then add the eggs one at a time, and keep mixing in between each addition. Add the rum and vanilla extract, then stir them until incorporated, and transfer the batter to the prepared bundt pan making sure to smoothen the top.
Step 3
Place it in the preheated oven, let it bake for about 50 to 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted at the center comes out clean, and allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Inver the cake on a wire rack, then let it cool completely, and prepare the rum sauce.
Step 4
Place a medium saucepan on a stove over medium heat, then melt the butter, and add the sugar and water. Bring the mixture to a boil, then allow it to continue gently boiling for about 5 to 7 minutes while stirring occasionally until thick and syrup-like consistency.
Step 5
Carefully pour in the rum while stirring, then let it simmer for an additional 2 to 3 minutes or until thickened, and set it side. Poke the holes on the cake using a skewer, then pour in the rum sauce, and let it soak for a couple of minutes. Serve and enjoy!
