Today, painting or decorating rocks can be considered one of the most leisurely hobbies. It is a great way to get creative and is a beautiful meditative art activity for any age. Annamoon Fine Art’s tutorial on Youtube gives us a really fun way to make something that you can use as decoration in your home.  Also, for cat lovers out there, this is perfect for you. The design she uses is a cat sitting with the moon as the background. The final product is very whimsical  and pretty. It can be a curio item as well.

Materials: 

  • Rock
  • Gesso
  • Bottle Cap
  • pencil
  • Medium Brush
  • A thin brush
  • Black Paint
  • Blue paint
  • White paint
  • Glossy varnish 

Directions

Begin with priming the rock with  two coats of white gesso. When it’s dry, place the bottle cap on the rock and trace its shape with your pencil – forming the perfect circle.

Prepare your black paint, and with your brush, paint over the uneven edges outside the outer half of the circle. With your blue paint, paint around the ring’s edges and overlap the black color to create a cloudy effect. While the blue paint is still wet, mix it with some black paint for a transition effect, creating the night sky’s effect.

Add and mix a little bit of white paint with your blue paint to get a lighter blue shade. Paint the lighter blue on the sky to create a brightly lit atmosphere of stars.

And there you have it! You can a painted rock for your  dedicated to your cat. Or for those who don’t have cats, just a beautiful painting on something that isn’t often considered a canvas. Later, you can probably paint more designs on your rocks. Or paint more cats in different positions enjoying the light of the moon!
