I’ve never had chicken served as delicious as this one by 쿠킹하루 Cooking Haru 🙂 on YouTube! This crispy popcorn chicken is already so addicting and mouth-watering as it is, but when served with an equally flavorful sweet and spicy sauce, the taste just goes to another level of deliciousness. I highly recommend that you try this dish, then share it with your family, and enjoy it while watching your favorite show or serve this during dinner!
Popcorn Chicken
Flour Mixture and Batter
Spicy Sauce
Step 1: Preparing the Popcorn Chicken
Chop the chicken into bite-sized cubes, then place them in a large mixing bowl, and season them with salt, black pepper, chili powder, garlic powder, and rice wine. Give them a good toss until well combined, then place them in the fridge, and prepare the batter and breading mix. In a separate large mixing bowl, sift over the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and baking powder, then add the salt, black pepper, chili powder, and garlic powder, and mix them all together until uniform and incorporated, you can also add the oregano at this point if you want.

Step 2: Cooking the Popcorn Chicken
Divide the flour into 45:55 ratio placing them into separate bowls, then in the 45% portion of flour, add the egg and water, and then whisk them together until well combined and runny. Dip the chicken pieces in the batter, then dredge them in the 55% portion of flour, shake off the excess, and then repeat dipping and dredging them. Continue to dip and coat the rest of the chicken pieces, then heat up the oil in a large and deep pan, and once hot enough, start frying the chicken for about 1 to 2 minutes or until crispy and light golden brown. Place the cooked chicken in a strainer or plate lined with a paper towel to drain off all the excess oil.
Step 3: Cooking the Spicy Sauce
Place a pan on a stove, then add the minced garlic, soy sauce, sugar, ketchup, corn syrup, water, and gochujang, and then turn on the heat to low. Allow it to simmer while stirring everything together continuously. then after a few minutes and once thickened, turn off the heat, and pour the sauce over the freshly fried popcorn chicken. Serve and enjoy!
