This pinwheel quilt block is different as the blades are longer. The common pinwheel block is made of four half-square triangles that are sewn together like a four-patch. For this pattern, you will be using rectangles instead of squares. The process is very similar to making half-square triangles. It might look harder to make, but trust me, it is not. It is an easy and fun project just like a normal pinwheel block. Learn how to make it with Cut and Create‘s tutorial.
Get all the rectangles and place one background square on one end for each one right sides together. Take a ruler and draw a diagonal line for each one just like in the photo below. Make sure every line is pointing in the same direction.
Sew directly on the lines and cut the excess. Open and press toward the dark side.
Sew them in pairs along the long side with the diagonals connecting. Press them open. Make sure to match the colors for two blocks.
Arrange the four squares into a four-patch just like in the photo below. Sew them in pairs first, then sew them together to make the block. Make sure to nest the seams. Press the block flat and you are done.
