Takeout food is a life-saver for busy people like me who struggles to have some time to prepare our own food at home, I can only cook when it’s my off or when I don’t have that much to do, but most days I rely on takeout, and probably my favorite go-to food is anything from Panda Express! I usually order beef and broccoli if no orange chicken, and recently I became curious if I can actually recreate it at home, and I was so glad when I found this recipe by The Slow Roasted Italian on YouTube! I tried it out and it was so delicious and similar to the original that I couldn’t even notice the difference.

Ingredients:

  • 6 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce, divided
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • ¼ cup honey, divided
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch, divided
  • 1½ pounds sirloin steak
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp garlic paste
  • ¾ cup low-sodium beef broth
  • ¼ cup Sriracha
  • 1 head broccoli, cut into florets
  • Salt, to taste
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Garnish

  • Everything But The Bagel Seasoning or sesame seeds
  • Green onions or chives

Directions:

Step 1

In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add ¼ cup of soy sauce, line juice, 1 tablespoon of honey, and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch, then whisk them all together until incorporated and uniform, and set it aside. Grab the sirloin, then trim off the fat, and slice them into thin strips making sure to cut against the grain. Place the steak strips into the marinade, then give them a good toss until well coated, and allow them to sit and marinate for about 20 minutes.

Step 2

Once done marinating, place a large skillet pan on a stove over medium-high heat, then add the steak strips, and let them cook for about 90 seconds per side or until browned evenly. Transfer the cooked steak strips to a bowl and set them aside. In the same pan, add the garlic, then saute them over medium heat for about 30 seconds. Add the remaining cornstarch into the broth, then whisk them together until well combined, and pour the mixture into the pan.

Step 3

At this point, add the remaining soy sauce, honey, and sriracha as well, then whisk them together thoroughly until combined and incorporated. Add the broccoli, then let them cook for about 3 to 5 minutes or until green and slightly tender, and put back the cooked steak into the pan including the drippings. Season them with salt and pepper to taste, then allow them to heat through before turning off the heat, and transfer them to a serving bowl. Serve them with rice, then garnish, and enjoy!
