Illusion quilts are fun to make and can also be a great project to practice and improve your quilting skills, just like this disappearing 4-patch illusion quilt by Brita Nelson the Questioning Quilter on YouTube. At first glance, you may think that this would be too difficult for you, especially if you’re a newbie, but you don’t have to worry because this project is comprised of only squares.

Those squares are pieced together, then cut at certain angles, and then rearranged to make the illusion. This video tutorial has straightforward instructions that it’s almost impossible for you to mess it all up. You can use any combination of 2 contrasting fabrics that you like for this quilt or if you want to be more creative, then use and combine more colors of fabrics.
Step 1
Cut the fabrics into 3¼-inch squares, then get 2 of each color, and assemble them into a 4-patch block making sure to alternate the colors.
Step 2
Stitch them together and press the seams as you go, trim the block into 6 inches, and cut 1 inch away from the center seam going all around to make 4 cuts.
Step 3
Make an identical block doing the same steps earlier, then rearrange the pieces to make blocks A and B as shown in the video or refer to the pattern, and stitch them together making sure to press as you go.
Step 4
Make 1 more identical piece to each block, assemble them as demonstrated in the video or pattern, and stitch them together to finish your 4-patch illusion quilt block.
