Half-Square Quilted Pillow Materials

  • 2 pieces of 10″ x 10″ gray fabric
  • 2 pieces of 10″ x 10″ white fabric
  • 18″ by 18″ cotton batting
  • 2 pieces of17″ x 15″ cotton backing

How to Make an HST Quilted Pillow

Step 1:

Lay the gray and white fabric, right sides together, with the white on top. Draw diagonal lines from corner to corner in both directions to make an X. Sew on either side of the lines with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Repeat with the remaining 10″ squares.

Step 2:

Draw horizontal and vertical lines in the middle of the square. Next, cut directly on the lines you have drawn. Press them all open to get 8 half-square triangles. Repeat with the other piece.

Step 4:

Place the quilt top over the cotton batting. Quilt it however you want. Trim it into a 16″ by 16″ square.

Step 5:

Take one of the backing pieces. Press it over about a quarter inch, then press it over again about half an inch. Sew the fold over. Repeat with the other piece.

Step 6:

Place the two backing pieces on top of the quilt, wrong side up. The folded side should be facing towards the center. Sew all around the edges. Trim corners and flip it right side out.
