Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 & 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1 & 1/4 tsp instant dry yeast
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tbsp boiling water + 1 tbsp honey, for brushing

Directions:

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of rolled oats, 1 & 1/2 cups of boiling water, 1/4 cup of honey, 2 tbsp of melted butter, and 1 & 1/2 tsp salt. Mix well to combine and let it cool a bit. After it cools down slightly, add 3 cups of whole-wheat flour followed by 1 & 1/4 tsp instant dry yeast. Fold until dough forms, then transfer it to a floured surface. Sprinkle a bit of flour on the dough and knead it for seven to eight minutes. After this, place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Let it rise for an hour or until it doubles in size.

Step 2

After an hour, transfer it again to your working surface and roll the dough like a log. Put it in your loaf pan and cover it with plastic wrap. Let it rise again for about an hour. Next, combine 1 tbsp honey and 1 tsp water in a small bowl, then mix. Gently brush the dough with this mixture. Sprinkle some rolled oats on top to finish it up. Place it in the oven at 350 degrees F and bake for 40 to 45 minutes. After 20 to 25 minutes, cover it with foil and continue baking. After this, let it cool in the loaf pan for ten minutes before you remove it.
