I love cornbread and always eat it to the point that I have to always have the ingredients in my kitchen. I have tried different versions before, but so far, the one that I enjoyed the most is the sweet cornbread. I prefer it served with honey butter and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Ingredients for Honey Butter Cornbread:
Cornbread
- 1½ cups of yellow cornmeal
- ¾ cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp of baking powder
- ½ tsp of salt
- ¼ tsp of baking soda
- ¼ cup of granulated sugar
- ¼ cup of honey
- 1 egg yolk, at room temperature
- 2 eggs, at room temperature
- ½ cup or 1 stick of unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tbsp of canola oil
- 1½ cups of buttermilk, at room temperature
Honey Butter
- 2 tbsp of unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tsp of honey
- 1 tsp of powdered sugar
- A pinch of salt
How to Make Honey Butter Cornbread:
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 450°F, then grease an 8×8-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray, and set it aside. In a large bowl, add the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, and sugar, then whisk everything until well combined, and set the mixture aside.
Step 2
In a separate large bowl, add the eggs, egg yolks, honey, melted butter, oil, and buttermilk, then mix them until combined, and pour it into the flour mixture. Stir them just until combined and make sure not to overmix, transfer the batter to the prepared pan, and smooth it out evenly.
Step 3
Put it in the preheated oven, then allow it to bake for about 25 to 30 minutes or until the center is set, and cover it with foil at the last 5 to 10 minutes of baking. Once done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool down while preparing the honey butter.
Step 4
In a small bowl, add the softened butter, honey, powdered sugar, and salt, then stir them until smooth and creamy, and then spread them over the hot cornbread. Serve and enjoy!
