You can easily make this in a few minutes using either a skillet pan or a baking pan. You also don’t have to do any complicated steps aside from some mixing, then popping it in the oven, and waiting for only a few minutes to enjoy this delicious dish.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (142 grams) Yellow cornmeal
  • 1 cup (142 grams) All-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp (6 grams) Baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp (11 grams) Salt
  • 1/3 cup (68 grams) Granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups (300 ml) Whole milk or buttermilk
  • 1 large Egg, room temperature
  • 3 tbsp (42.5 grams) Unsalted butter, melted
  • 5 tbsp (71 grams)Unsalted butter, melted (for pan or cast-iron skillet)

Directions:

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients (yellow cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar), whisk it until fully combined. You can adjust the salt and sugar to your preference if you want your cornbread sweeter or saltier.

Step 2

Add in the cracked egg, 3 tablespoons of melted butter, and whole milk or buttermilk, whisk it together until well combined. If the batter is too thick to your liking, then simply add milk gradually until you reached the desired consistency. In a skillet pan or an 8 to 9-inch baking pan, add 5 tablespoons of melted butter, then pour all of the batter onto the pan. Bake it in a preheated oven at 400ºF for about 18 to 20 minutes.
