Here’s a loaded and healthy casserole recipe that you can add to your dinner table to make your family meal extra special! You can serve this with or even without an occasion, this is also a very quick and easy to do a recipe that requires little effort especially if you’re in a hurry or multitasking. Thanks to Weightwatchergirl1 on YouTube, now I don’t want cabbage served any other way.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of ground turkey or beef, 93% lean
  • 1 container (15 ounces) of fat-free ricotta cheese
  • 2 cans (14.5 ounces) of diced tomatoes, one drained and one undrained
  • 1 can (15 ounces) of tomato sauce
  • ½ cup of diced onion
  • 1 tablespoon of garlic powder
  • 2-3 teaspoons of Salt
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 medium head of cabbage, diced

Directions:

Step 1

Place a large pan on a stove over medium-high heat, then add the ground meat, and saute the meat until it turns brown. Once browned, add in half a cup of onions and give them a good stir. Let it simmer for about 3 to 4 minutes before adding in the diced tomatoes and the entire can of tomato sauce, then season them with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, and mix them all together until they are well combined. Bring it to a simmer for about 15 minutes. While the mixture is simmering, prepare a 3-quart baking dish and spray the bottom as well as the sides with cooking oil or non-stick spray.

Step 2

Add in about 4 cups of cabbage and spread it evenly at the bottom of the baking dish. Now when your meat sauce is done, take it and put half of it on top of the cabbage. Then, add in about 3 to 4 more cups of cabbage and pour the remaining half of the sauce mixture on top. Take the entire container of Ricotta and spread it evenly on top of the entire dish, and then cover it with a sheet of aluminum foil. Put it in a preheated oven at 350 degrees and let it bake for about 40 to 45 minutes. Remove the aluminum foil and bake it for an additional 15 to 20 minutes or until the top is lightly browned.
