Ingredients for Double French Onion Beef Tips & Gravy:
- 2 tbsp of olive oil
- 1 small yellow onion, sliced
- 2 lbs of sirloin beef tips
- 1 ½ cups of low-sodium beef broth
- 1 (10 oz) can of condensed French onion soup
- 1 packet of Lipton
- 1 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
- 1 bay leaf
- 3 tbsp of cornstarch
- ⅓ cup of water
- Salt and pepper, to taste
How to Make Double French Onion Beef Tips & Gravy:
Step 1
First, trim the fat from the beef as needed, then lightly season it with salt and pepper, and set it aside. Place a large heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven on a stove over medium-high heat, then add 1 tablespoon of oil, and heat it up before adding the seasoned beef. Let it cook for a few minutes or until all sides are nice and brown, then make sure to work in batches to not overcrowd the pot, and then remove it to a bowl before setting it aside.
Step 2
Reduce the heat to medium, then add the remaining oil to the pot, and add in the onions. Saute and let it cook for about 5 to 7 minutes or until softened and translucent, then pour in the broth, onion soup, onion packet, Worcestershire sauce, bay leaf, and browned beef, then stir everything until well combined, and then bring the mixture to a boil.
Step 3
Cover the pot, then reduce the heat to a simmer, and let it simmer for about 1½ to 2 hours or until the beef is fork tender. Stir in some cornstarch to ⅓ cup of cold water until incorporated, then pour it into the beef mixture, and give them a good stir until the gravy has thickened. Let it simmer for a few minutes, then adjust the salt and pepper to taste, and serve. Enjoy!
