Rock painting is one of my absolute favorite past times, I just love collecting smooth rocks and drawing different characters or animals on them. They make such pretty decor both indoors and outdoors, plus, they also are a great gift idea for a loved one. Personally, I display the rocks I’ve painted in my garden, and they look so adorable in there, I might even try making larger versions of painted rocks. But for now, if you haven’t tried this kind of project yet, then this turtle-painted rock by JaDeL Rocks on YouTube might be a good one for you to start.

Materials:

  • 1 large rock
  • 5 small rocks
  • Green acrylic paint, different shades
  • White acrylic paint
  • Black acrylic paint
  • A dotting tool, large and small
  • Thin paintbrush
  • White pencil

Directions:

Step 1

Pick your rocks, then cover them completely with black paint, and let them dry. Take the large rock, then using a white pencil, draw the outline of the shell as shown in the video, and dab large light green dots all around the outer edges. Grab a smaller dotting tool, then dab dots of light green inside the outline, and repeat the layers making sure to use a darker shade of green each time.

Step 2

Using a thin brush, draw over the outlines of the shell, then fill the blanks with more dots, and do the same for the small rocks as well. Allow the paint to dry completely, then add more details by using black and white paint, then once dry, cover the small rocks with a mixture of white and glitter paint, and add the eyes to one of the small rocks. Once the paint has dried, coat them with gloss paint, and assemble them together.
