Tips:

  • Have the right tools
  • Fill the sink
  • Wash like items together
  • Tackling burnt pots
  • DIY steel wool
  • Wine glasses

Directions:

Step 1: Have the right tools

Find a good pair of rubber gloves that reaches to the end of your forearms and make sure it’s a bit tactile to avoid things from slipping out of your hands. Use a good scrub pad or sponge, then get a nice bottle brush to help you clean and brush awkward-shaped stuff as well as reach corners that a normal sponge can’t clean.

Step 2: Fill the sink

Fill the sink with hot water, then add 1 or 2 squirts of dish soap, and pre-soak your dishes. This is a more efficient way of washing instead of getting a bit of water and a bit of soap every now and then. To sanitize your dishes, you can add 5 drops of therapeutic-grade eucalyptus oil or tea tree oil, this will effectively knock out bacteria from your dish soap water.

Step 3: Wash like items together

When washing your dishes, don’t just grab random items, but instead, group them into categories such as; cutlery, glass, bowl, cup, etc. This method will help you maximize the space in your drying rack and will prevent you from removing items from the rack just so you can try and fit the new dishes that you’ve washed.

Step 4: Tackling burnt pots

Fill the bottom of your pot or pan with a bit of water maybe about an inch or so, then shake some baking soda to the bottom, and bring it to a boil. Once boiling, remove it from the heat, then allow it to rest and cool down, and start scraping the burnt area with a silicone scraper. Give it a good rinse and let it dry.

Step 5: DIY steel wool

Instead of buying steel wool from the store, just find a piece of aluminum foil in your kitchen, you can even grab the ones that you just used from cooking, then crumble it, and add a bit of soap and water to it. Use it to scrape the pot or pan like you would a steel wool.

Step 6: Wine glasses

Make sure to handwash wine glasses or any delicate items. Simply fill the sink with a bit of warm water, then a little you of soap, and scoop up some water using your glasses. Now, instead of a sponge or scrub pad, use your gloves to lightly scrub the insides, then give it a good rinse, and hang it upside down to dry. In case there are any marks on your glasses, you can grab a flat weave cloth, dab a little bit of white vinegar on it, and polish your glasses with it.
