Candied Orange Slices
Orange Cake
Step 1
Slice the orange into 1/8-inch pieces or thinner, then set them aside, and place a saucepan on a stove. Add the sugar and water to the saucepan, then stir them together until combined, and bring it to a boil or cook until the sugar has dissolved. Add the orange slices to the sugar mixture, then reduce the heat to low, and continue to cook for about 10 to 15 minutes. Once done cooking, turn off the heat, and let the orange slices sit in the syrup until ready to use.

Step 2
In a large mixing bowl, add the flour, baking powder, salt, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves or nutmeg or whatever spice you want, then whisk them all together until combined and uniform, and set it aside. In a separate mixing bowl, beat together the eggs and sugar for about 5 minutes until light and fluffy, then change the speed setting to low, and slowly pour the oil while beating continuously until incorporated. Add the orange zest, orange juice, and vanilla extract, then continue to mix until well combined, and set it aside.
Step 3
Gradually pour the flour mixture into the egg mixture, then give them a good mix until incorporated, take the orange slices and cut them in half. Lay them around the bottom of a pan lined with parchment paper as shown in the video, and pour the batter spreading it evenly. Let it bake in a preheated oven at 175°C or 350°F for about 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, then allow it to cool, and unmold the cake upside down in a serving dish. Brush some of the candied orange syrup all over the top, then serve, and enjoy!
