Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds of pork skin
  • 2 quarts of water
  • ¼ cup of salt
  • Cooking oil
  • You’re favorite seasoning

Directions:

Step 1

First off, make sure that your pork skin is washed and clean, then check if all of the fat has been removed, and proceed to slice it into small bite-sized pieces, they don’t have to have the exact sizes, they can vary from larger to smaller ones. If there are parts or edges of the skin that looks dark and feels tough, then cut that off because that becomes hard to chew once cooked.

Step 2

Now, fill a pot with water, then add some salt, and bring it to a boil over high heat. Add the pork skin and cook them for about 30 minutes making sure to stir consistently so that they don’t stick to each other, then once done cooking and the pork skin pieces are very soft, turn off the heat, and strain them to remove all of the liquid. Run them through cold water and give them a quick rinse, then add them to a cookie sheet, and spread them out in an even layer.

Step 3

Season them with salt or any of your favorite seasonings, then give them a good mix and massage them well with your hands, and then spread them out again. Place them in the oven, then let them bake on the lowest setting or at 170°F for about 3 to 4 hours, or use a dehydrator instead if you have one. Once they are done baking, preheat your oil in a deep fryer or deep pan to 350°F, then drop the pork rinds in batches so that they don’t overcrowd the pan, and fry them for about 2 minutes or until they start popping out as shown in the video.

Step 4

Make sure to move the pork rinds every now and then so that the oil penetrates each of the pieces nicely, then once done frying, place them in a plate, bowl, or tray lined with paper towels to drain off the excess oil, and proceed to cook the rest. Lastly, season them with more salt or any seasoning of your choice if you want, then give them a good toss, and serve. Enjoy!
