There are a lot of snacks that I enjoyed eating as a child and even now that I’m all grown up, and probably one of my favorites is a crispy fried okra! It’s just a food that I can never get tired of eating and is something that I enjoy munching on while playing games with friends or family, or while I’m watching my favorite show.

Step 1
In a large bowl, add the 1 cup of the flour, then add in the cornmeal as well followed by the seasoned salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper powder, onion powder, and garlic powder, and whisk them until uniform before setting them aside for later. Now, make sure to rinse the okra and pat them dry, then cut off the top and bottom, and slice them into ½ inch pieces or any size that you want. Transfer the chopped okra to a large bowl, then sprinkle some flour, and toss them until coated.

Step 2
Season them with salt, black pepper, and more flour, then toss until well coated, and set them aside. In another large bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, and tabasco sauce until incorporated, then add in the coated okra, and mix until fully submerged and coated. Let them sit for about 10 to 15 minutes, then transfer the okra to the flour mixture making sure to shake off the excess batter before adding them in, and then toss them until fully coated.
Step 3
Place the coated okra on a wire rack, then preheat the oil in a pot or deep pan to 350°, then deep fry the okra a little at a time, and cook them for about 3 to 4 minutes or until crispy and golden brown. Remove the cooked okra with a slotted spoon or spider, then transfer them to a wire rack to drain off the excess oil, and cook the rest. Serve them with your favorite dipping sauce on the side and enjoy!
