I love seafood, especially crabs and recently I found out how to make yummy crab cake poppers using crab meat through this video tutorial by Delish on YouTube! They are so easy to make and turned out very delicious, I’ll surely make a lot of these more often from now on.

Ingredients:

Crab poppers

  • 2 ounces of cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp of mayonnaise
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tsp of lemon juice
  • 1 tsp of old bay seasoning
  • A dash of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pound of lump crab meat
  • 1/3 cup of shredded mozzarella
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp of finely chopped chives, divided
  • 1½ cups of panko bread crumbs, divided
  • Kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Vegetable oil
  • Grated Parmesan, for garnish
  • Chopped parsley, for garnish

Aioli

  • ½ cup of mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp of lemon juice
  • 1 tsp of old bay seasoning

Directions:

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, add the cream cheese, mayonnaise, egg, lemon juice, old bay seasoning, and Worcestershire, then mix them together until smooth and well combined. Fold in the crab meat, then add the mozzarella, garlic, 1 tbsp of chives, and ¾ cup of bread crumbs, and then season them with salt and pepper. Roll the mixture into small balls of about 1 inch, then coat them in the remaining panko breadcrumbs. Put them in the fridge and let them freeze for about 30 minutes or until firm. While waiting for the crab meatballs to set, prepare the aioli.

Step 2

In a small mixing bowl, add the mayonnaise, lemon juice, old bay seasoning, and the remaining chives, then whisk them together until smooth, and then season them with salt and pepper. Place a large and deep skillet pan on a stove over medium heat, then heat up about half an inch high of vegetable oil. Add the crab cake poppers in batches so that they don’t overcrowd the pan. Fry them for about 2 to 3 minutes per side or until nice and golden. Place them on a plate lined with a paper towel to drain off excess oil, then garnish them with parmesan and parsley. Serve warm with the aioli and enjoy!
