Do you love eating candies and citrus fruits? If you do, this 4-ingredient citrus candy is for you. I have never made anything like this before, and I have to say it turned out amazing. I felt like I was a kid in a candy shop! Although this recipe needs a lot of sugar, it has the perfect balance of bitter, sweet, and sour flavors. The sweetness is not overpowering at all, and they are actually addicting.

These candies were popular decades ago and are usually made during the Christmas season. But of course, you can have them any time of the year. If you have a ton of lemons and oranges, don’t let them go to waste. Use this recipe by toothsome recipes to turn them into these yummy candies.

When I made these candies, my house was filled with amazing aromas. The smell of the oranges and lemons was absolutely refreshing. Your mouth will surely water while making these candied fruits. To make them at home, you only need a few basic ingredients – lemon, orange, sugar, and water. If you already have these ingredients at home, then you can start right away. Just remember that it will take hours or even a day to dry, but it will definitely be worth it.

  • orange or lemons
  • ice water
  • sugar
  • water
  • granulated sugar

How to Make Citrus Candy

Step 1:

Start by slicing the lemon or orange into thin round slices. Remove the seeds.

Step 2:

Add water to a pan and let it come to a boil. Once boiling, add the fruit slices and cook for about 5 to 6 minutes.

Step 3:

Remove from the water and transfer to a bowl of ice water.

Step 4:

For the oranges:

In a clean dry pan, add 1 1/2 cup of granulated sugar and 1 1/2 cup of water. Stir until the sugar has melted. Once it comes to a light boil, add the slices and boil for 40 minutes on medium low heat. Stir occasionally.

For the lemons:

In a different pan over heat, add 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water. Stir until the sugar has melted. Once it come to a light boil, add the lemon slices and cook for 30 minutes on medium low heat. Stir occasionally.

Step 5:

Transfer the slices into a cooling rack with a baking sheet covered in foil in the bottom to catch the drippings. Dry for up to 24 hours.

Step 6:

Once dry coat them in granulated sugar and enjoy!
