Materials:

  • ½ yard each of 6 different fabrics
  • 2½ yards of background fabric
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Ruler
  • Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
  • Needle and thread
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Sewing machine
  • Pattern (Click here to download and print the pattern)

Directions:

Step 1

Before you start cutting your fabrics, make sure to iron them flatly first, then proceed to cut them into squares as shown in the video and according to what’s required in the pattern, and then cut the background fabric into squares as well. Next, label each fabric with the letters as shown in the diagram, then set them aside, grab the background fabric, and mark their backside with a diagonal line going from corner to corner. Take a colorful square and a background square, then lay them together with their right sides facing, and sew ¼ inch away from each side of the line on the background fabric.

Step 2

Once done sewing, cut along the line, then give it a good press, and trim off the dog ears or the excess fabric pointing out of the two corners of the square. Repeat this process with the rest of the fabric squares, then once done, lay and assemble the half-square triangles using the diagram as a guide, and start sewing them into 4 sets. Once done sewing 4 large blocks, sew them together to complete the block, then finish your quilt by adding a backing, batting, and binding, and add a pattern as well.
