Potatoes are a staple in our house, and this recipe from Natashas Kitchen on Youtube is one of my go-to’s whenever I need a dish to feed a big crowd. It’s simple to make, doesn’t need a lot of ingredients, and is pretty quick to put together. I’ve been serving this since I can remember, and my family always finishes it in a snap. Learn how to make this fantastic dish by watching the video below.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and grease your casserole dish with some softened butter. Set it aside. Next, set your soup pot over medium heat and melt in 4 tbsp of unsalted butter. Add 1/4 cup of flour and whisk together for two minutes until golden. While whisking constantly, gradually pour in the milk followed by the heavy whipping cream. Season with salt, freshly ground black pepper and garlic powder. Continue whisking until the sauce has thickened. Once it thickens, remove it from the heat, and stir in 1/2 of the shredded gruyere cheese. Whisk together until the cheese has melted and is fully incorporated. Set it aside.

Peel and thinly slice the potatoes into 1/8-inch thickness. After this, add all of the sliced potatoes to the sauce. Stir them in using a spatula and make sure all the potatoes are evenly coated. Transfer the saucy potatoes to the greased casserole dish and spread them out evenly. Then, sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top. Cover it tightly with foil and place it in the preheated oven at 350 degrees F for one hour. After an hour, remove the cover and continue to bake for 15 to 30 minutes. Let it rest for 15 minutes in the oven before serving.
