Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and butter your casserole dish. Next, peel, core, and slice the apples. Put them in a big bowl. After this, squeeze 2 tbsp of fresh lemon juice over the apple slices. (This will keep the apples from browning.) Stir the apples to make sure they are all well-coated in lemon juice. Next, in a small bowl, combine 3/4 cup of sugar, 3 tbsp of flour, and 1/2 tsp of cinnamon. Pour this mixture over the sliced apples and toss until the slices are coated. After this, transfer the apples to the buttered casserole dish, then arrange them nicely and evenly. Set it aside.

Now, for the crumb topping, in a large mixing bowl, combine 1 & 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of rolled oats (or old-fashioned oats), 1/2 cup of packed brown sugar, 1/4 cup of granulated sugar, 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp of salt. Stir all together using your hands. Next, dice up and add 16 tbsp or 1 cup of unsalted softened butter. After adding the butter, continue stirring and make sure to coat the butter in the flour. Work the butter into the mixture until you see pea-sized buttery crumbs form.
Now, spread the topping evenly over the apple slices. Place it in the preheated oven at 375 degrees F and bake it uncovered for 40 to 50 minutes. After 50 minutes, take it out of the oven and let it rest for about 10 to 15 minutes. Serve it with some vanilla ice cream.
