If you love jello desserts as a kid, you have to make this easy 1960s jello dessert recipe by Kevin Lee Jacobs. It’s very simple, delicious, and only requires 3 ingredients.

Jellos was popular in the 1960s. Some retro desserts that use a box of Jell-O are gelatin salad, stained glass cakes, cherry fluff, pineapple fluff, and strawberry pretzel salad. Gelatin dishes were popular in the ’50s and ’60s as they were affordable and could feed a lot of people. That is why they are in every vintage cookbook.

To make this orange jello dessert, you need water/ice cubes, cream cheese, and orange Jell-O. You can also add mandarin oranges and whipped cream if preferred. It is similar to orange fluff, except it does not contain whipped topping and marshmallows. This dessert comes together easily and quickly but requires a few hours in the refrigerator to set. Old-Fashioned Jello Dessert Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup of boiling water
  • 3 ounces package of orange Jell-O
  • 8 ounces of full-fat cream cheese
  • ice cubes
  • mandarin oranges (optional)
  • whipped cream  (optional)

How to Make a Jello Dessert

Step 1:

Add 3/4 cup of water in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave until boiling. Stir for about 2 minutes or until thoroughly dissolved.

Step 2:

Add the full fat of cream cheese in a blender and the dissolved jello. Blend until just combined.

Step 3:

Add ice cubes into a measuring cup, then fill it with water until it reaches 3/4 cup. Blend until well blended.

Step 4:

Transfer to an air-tight freezer-safe bowl. Top with mandarin oranges if preferred. Cover it with the lid. Place in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 hours until set.

Step 5:

Once set, scoop with an ice cream scoop and serve on a dessert cup. Top with whipped cream if preferred. Enjoy!
