Instructions:

Step 1:

Get 24 pieces of 8 1/2 x 11″ paper and trim to 8 1/2 x 8 1/2″ square. Rotate one square so it will look like a diamond. Place a 6″ wide plastic ruler on the center and draw lines on each side. Next, make a diagonal line in the middle of the two lines.

Step 2:

Choose some coordinating fabrics from your charm squares or scraps, so you have a variety of widths between 3/4″ up to 2″ wide. Adjust your sewing machine’s stitch length so it has very small stitches.

Step 3:

Place your first scrap onto the paper with one edge along the line. Next, add a second scrap on top of the first piece lining up the raw edges. Use a 1/4″ seam to stitch the pieces together.

Step 4:

Fold the second piece along the stitching line and finger press. Keep adding pieces on the right side of the block until the entire section between the lines is covered. Turn the block around and repeat the method on the left side of the block.

Step 5:

Take a 5″ square and make a diagonal line from corner to corner on the back side. Line up the edges of the 5″ with the edges of the paper. Sew along the drawn line. Fold along the stitched line then press. Open and trim the bottom layers leaving a 1/4″ seam allowance. Repeat for the second corner.

Step 6:

Place the block right side down, then trim off excess fabric so the edges are even with the paper.

Step 7:

Take off all the remaining paper backing.

Step 8:

Repeat the process to make 24 blocks. Arrange the blocks as shown in the finished quilt. For the inner border, cut 5 at 2 1/2″ WOF. Sew into one long piece, then stitch onto all 4 sides of the quilt. For the outer border, cut 5 at 5 1/2″ WOF. Sew into one long piece and sew onto all 4 sides of the quilt.
