Ever heard of sock dolls? We just learned how to make a sock doll over Thanksgiving break, and I am going to have an entire family of these adorable dolls come Christmas. So much fun to make, easy to do and they all turn out differently but super cute.

My children and I get very bored over the holidays and things can easily go haywire at a moment’s notice, so to keep everyone on track, I keep boxes of projects that I can pull out and put in the middle of the table and seat them quietly all round to focus their attention on their own creative spirit. I keep a few boxes of sock projects on hand and one of my favorites is the DIY Sock Doll. This is such a cute, fun project, everyone from old to young love it. You get started by simply filling a sock with rice and tie it off, then squeeze the top part together, making a head for the adorable Christmas Doll. I first started by cutting my sock in half and filling it with rice, I used about 2 cups of rice. You can use Poly-Pellets from JoAnn’s or Michael’s Craft Store for about $6.00. If you are worried about Weevils, you can freeze your rice for about 24 hours beforehand. I started my first doll by cutting and sewing my first sock to make legs for my doll.

Then I just stuffed the legs and sewed the top shut and then made a sock head for the doll and sewed it shut, then attached the two together.

Then I just made a hat for my doll and attached it, then pinched the sides down and sewed a groove to make arms then made a little scarf collar out of a circle sock pice and attached it and then sewed features for my doll’s face.

There are many variations to this sock doll you can explore and embellish them any way you want, such as adding jewelry, etc. Like with all DIY, there is no right or wrong way to do this, it’s all an adventure! You are sure to love the sock dolls and they make great zero cost gifts.
