Are you looking for an alternative and cheap way to install a deck? Then, this DIY platform deck from pallets and fence pickets from The Will To Make on Youtube will interest you. For just under $500, you can finally have a platform deck! It’s absolutely way cheaper than having it built with dimensional lumber. Make this today by watching the video tutorial below.

Materials:

  • pallets and fence pickets
  • tape measure
  • circular saw
  • speed square
  • drill and driver
  • sawzall
  • drywall square

Directions:

Step 1

First, outline where you wanted your deck to be, then scrape up the first layer of dirt and grass using a shovel. Try to level the ground out as much as possible while still keeping a slope away from the house. After doing this, lay the pallets down, making sure they are close to each other as possible. Next, lay down the laminate on top of all the pallets. This will lock everything together and make the deck super solid.

Step 2

For the fence pigments, chop off the dog ears and start by installing the border on the deck. Make sure to keep the flush with the top of the deck. Next, line up the front with the front border and screw them there. Once you’re done with a row, stagger the next row. Give a quick round over with a router to smoothen out the edges. After this, paint the cracks dark so they wouldn’t show later on. Apply the deck paint after this step. With this, your cheap DIY pallet deck is now finished.
