We’ve all left our sweaters in the washer for too long, I used to be so bummed out about this predicament until I realized that that state of stiffness your sweater turns into is actually called felted wool! Who knew? There are many projects that can be made with felted wool, like dolls and animal figures, but this felted mitten DIY is super easy and a good way for beginners to get started in this cool world of felted crafts. I started this exciting project of felted mittens by placing my shrunken stiff felted sweater flat on the table then tracing around my hands in a mitten shape onto a piece of paper, then cutting it out.

Then I pinned my mitten template to the felted upcycled sweater and cut through two layers. You want to use pretty sharp scissors to get through these layers.

Then I pinned my two layers of felted sweater together and sewed them together, you can use a machine or sew by hand at this stage, both will work fine.

Then you just flip your mittens right side out and give them a steam pressing, this will really set all your stitching in place. Then the beautiful felted mittens are ready to wear, frolicking in the snow or to keep your hands cozy at the next outdoor game.
