Are you tired of seeing unwanted splashes and leftover materials all over your bathroom wall? Then, here’s a fun and creative solution for you! Using gemstones from the dollar store, you can create a high-end-looking backsplash without costing you a lot of money. Let Hometalk via YouTube show us how to do it properly.
Step 1
Sort the gems according to their sizes or colors, then wash them using dish soap and give them a good rinse of clean water. Pat dry with a towel or simply lay them on the surface and leave until they’re completely dry. While waiting for them to dry, start to draw a line under the mirror or where you want the gemstones to reach, then draw lines at the side edges as well. Place a strip of painter’s tape along the top of the vanity and use that as a guide to even out the application of the mastic and the gems.

Step 2
Apply a thin coat of mastic using a small notched trowel, make ridges as you go along the area, then press the gems into the mastic applied wall, fit them together and make a pattern if you want. Work in small sections of mastic so that it wouldn’t dry too quickly, then once you’re done attaching all of the gems, mix 1 cup of grout to ½ cup of water and apply the grout in small sections all over the backsplash, make sure that you’re pushing it between each gem, but not too hard as to not push the gems out of their position, every spot in between must be filled. Let dry for about 1 hour, then using a large sponge and plain water, wash away all of the excess grout. Remove the tape on top of the vanity and apply caulk smoothing it out with your fingers.
