Candy Canes are a Christmas staple in our home and I just recently discovered I could get plastic candy canes at Dollar Tree which gives longevity to all the wonderful decorations you can make from the red and white striped iconic sweet. After all, no one will know they are not real except you. I was in need of a centerpiece for a Christmas event for my office party and I saw this brilliant candy cane themed set of candy cane luminaries using the fake candy canes I found at Dollar Tree and these awesome emergency candles also from Dollar Tree.
Then I started the project by Chipping off the platform around my emergency battery operated candle and gluing my candy canes all around it. You want to make sure and use the battery operated candles for this project, this project is not suitable for real candles. I repeat, do not use real candles.
Then I just cut a sprig of a Christmas greenery off of another piece of Dollar Tree holiday decor and disguised the top of my somewhat jagged candy canes.
Then I used a green glitter ribbon to pull the whole thing together. These DIY Candy Cane Luminaries looked better than I could have ever hoped for. When I brought them to my office party and sat them right in the center of the table all my coworkers just gasped. When I told them I made them myself they all wanted to learn how. These luminaries provided hours of conversation as well as looking beautiful on the holiday table.
