Dishwashing sponges seem to get really smelly very quickly, and I always end up just throwing them away, but that is incredibly wasteful. I recently found this awesome video tutorial by Ehowhome, on YouTube, that described perfectly a really cool way to sterilize those nasty sponges in the microwave. Bacteria love to stay in places that are moist and dark, so heating them up can be one of the only ways to kill bacteria effectively without chemicals.
In this awesome video tutorial by Ehowhome, on YouTube, you will learn how to sterilize those nasty sponges in the microwave. You will begin by getting the sponges super wet, then putting them in the microwave.
Then, you will set the timer on the microwave for 2 minutes and run on high. You want your sponges to start to steam, if they are not steaming you will want to run the microwave for longer.

This is one of the best ideas that I have found in a really long time. I am so glad I can keep my sponges smelling fresh and not keep throwing them away.
