This Deer Camp cheese dip by HowToBBQRight on YouTube is an easy cheese dip with ground elk that is smoked on a grill. If you like deer meat, this would be a nice cheese dip appetizer to serve with chips. I think it’s interesting to cook the cheese dip in the smoker or grill because it greats that smokey flavor. This is such a southern cheese dip, and it’s unique that there are recipes out there for those that love deer hunting season.

Ingredients:

  • 2 lb ground elk or any ground venison
  • 1 small onion
  • 4-5 cloves garlic minced
  • 16 oz Velveeta queso Blanco cheese – cubed
  • 8oz Monterrey Jack cheese – cubed
  • 8oz sharp cheddar cheese – cubed
  • 1/4 cup diced pickled jalapeño
  • 2 cans Rotel tomatoes and green peppers
  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  •  3 Tablespoons Killer Hogs TX seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper

Directions:

First, prepare your grill or smoker to 275F. Add onions to a pot on medium-high heat to cook and soften. Then add garlic and season with the TX seasoning with chili powder, ground cumin, and cayenne pepper. Add the ground venison or elk and brown it until it’s cooked. Season the meat again.

Next, once the vegetables and meat are all brown and ready, remove them from the heat. Add 2 cans of Rotel, diced jalapeno, and a combination of cubed cheeses. Combine the flavors and set the pot into the grill and let it slow cook until the cheese is melted for smoked flavor. However, if you don’t have a grill, skip this and cook on the stove.

Overall, this cheese dip looks amazing, but I would skip on the ground elk. This is a great recipe if you go deer hunting or have access to deer meat. I think the cheese dip would combine well with the meat without tasting too gamey.
