Instructions

Step 1:

Get two strips and put them right sides together. Sew on one side with a 1/4″ seam allowance. Keep a hold on the end of the sewn strips, and add another strip to the side. Sew on the side with 1/4″ seam allowance in the other direction. Keep sewing back and forth in alternating directions with the remaining two strips to make a 5-unit strip. Once done, press it flat.

Note: Do not sew the strips one after the other in the same direction as they can bow.

Step 2:

Cut the five-unit strip into 10″ blocks.

Step 3:

Get one block and one 10″ background square. Place them on top of each other, right sides together. Sew around the outside edge.

Step 4:

Place the edge of a ruler on top of the sewn block from corner to corner in both directions. Set the seams and turn them over so the dark stripe side is on the top. Open them up and press toward the darker side of the fabric.
