A big pot of Souther Style Beans of any variety is the ultimate comfort food, nothing absorbs too much alcohol or renders gut healing, peace of mind giving properties like a big bowl of tender juicy beans. I started my succulent beans by, getting a 2-pound bag of pinto beans and soaking overnight.

Then I just added all my ingredients to the crockpot, (EXCEPT THE SALT), to the crockpot and set it on high for 6 hours. You add your salt at the end to taste, the salt will mess up the softening process while cooking, I know many recipes say put it in at the beginning, but I have messed up many pots of beans by not knowing this.

These beans and ham hocks recipe is the best beans recipe I’ve ever tasted! I cannot recommend this recipe enough, I love it!!!

Ingredients for Crockpot Pinto Beans:

  • 1 Ham Hock
  • 8 cups Water
  • 2 lb Bag of Pinto Beans
  • 1 large Onion
  • 2 medium Bell Peppers
  • 4 Tbsp Minced Garlic
  • 1 Tbsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 1 Tbsp Cumin Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions:

  • 1) Rinse Bean and soak overnight
  • 2) Drain Beans the rinse them
  • 3) Add Beans, Ham Hock, Bell Pepper, Onion, Garlic, Cumin, Cayenne Pepper, and Water to Crockpot.
  • 4) Add Salt and Pepper to taste after Beans become tender.
  • 5) Cook on low 9 – 10 hours or HIGH 5 -6 hours.
