My Daughter just had a baby and that makes me a first time Grandma and I’m overwhelmed with joy. So one of the first things I needed to do as a new Grandma was to crochet my new Grandson a baby blanket. I found this baby blanket tutorial on Youtube using afghan squares and it looked like the ones my Sister In Law made me when my Daughter was born. So I new this crochet blanket making method was a great fit for my needs and my skill level, which is a beginner, but this is a basic age-old method used and loved by experienced crocheters alike. It’s so easy, let me tell you how to make this gorgeous baby blanket.
Materials:
- Yarn
- Crochet Hook
- Scissors
Directions:
Round One is 4 sets of 2 Double Crochet
Round Two is 4 sets of 3 Puff
Round Three is 4 sets of 11 double Crochet
Round Four is 4 sets of 10 Double Crochet
Last Steps:
Round Five is repeating round two (4 sets of 7 puff), Round Six is repeating round three (4 sets of 23 double crochet), Round Seven is repeating round four (4 sets of 18 double crochet), Round Eight is repeating round four (4 sets of 11 puff)
This is a really simple tutorial to make the perfect afghan square which I consider the Seventies iconic blanket of all time. I have loved these blankets for many years and they are so gorgeous in bright colors bit also wonderful in neutrals as well. My Grandma used to make them for me and now I am so happy I get to make one for my grandson.
