Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of elbow macaroni
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose butter
  • 2 cups of whole or 2% milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground mustard
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup freshly shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup freshly shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup freshly shredded pepper Jack cheese

Directions:

Step 1

Shred your cheese and put them in a bowl. Set aside. Next, pour your elbow macaroni into a pot of lightly salted boiling water and cook until al dente. While waiting, heat a saucepan and add 3 tbsp of unsalted butter and melt it. Once it melts, add the flour and whisk over medium heat for one to two minutes. Pour in the milk a little bit at a time while whisking until smooth and creamy.

Step 2

Next, add the salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and ground mustard. Mix until evenly combined and continue to cook over medium-high heat for five to six minutes, stirring regularly until the sauce thickens. After it thickens, add the shredded cheese one at a time and whisk until smooth and melted. Finally, turn off the heat and add the cooked elbow macaroni. Stir until well combined.
