Boiling ham in cola might sound unusual to some, but it makes these gorgeous and delicious caramelized edges and keeps the slices moist and tender. Trust me, it tastes way better than any smoked spiral ham you’ll ever get from the stores. It’s perfectly cooked and bursting with amazing flavors. Serve it with asparagus, potatoes, salad, or coleslaw.
For the glaze:
Get a large pot and place the ham. Pour in the cola, then add the onion, star anise, cloves, and peppercorns. If the cola is not enough to fully cover the ham, add water.
Let it come to a boil. Once boiling, let it simmer steadily for 40 minutes. After 40 minutes, turn off the heat and allow it to cool in the liquid.
In a small saucepan, pour in the orange juice, then add honey and sugar. Turn on the heat and cook until the sugar has dissolved and it becomes a slightly thick glaze. Let it cool slightly.
Preheat your oven to 450F.
Once that ham has cooled, remove it from the liquid. Take a sharp knife and remove the skin, exposing the fat of the ham, then score it diagonally. Stud each cross with the cloves.
Place the ham in a tray, then brush it with the glaze. Sprinkle the mustard powder on top.
Place it in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes or until golden on top. Once done roasting, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool slightly. Thinly slice then serve. Enjoy!
