Ingredients:

  • 2 lb 80/20 ground chuck
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp dried minced onion
  • 1 tbsp beef base
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 medium yellow onions (chopped or sliced)
  • 2 cups sliced mushroom (not in the video recipe but you can add this)
  • 4 cups of water
  • 2 tbsp corn starch + 2 tbsp water (to make a slurry)

Directions:

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, add 1 egg, 1/2 cup of milk, 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 2 tbsp dried minced onion, 1 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp salt, and 1/2 cup bread crumbs. Mix it and get everything well combined. Next, add the 2 lb ground chuck and continue mixing it. After this, form the mixture into an oval shape. (You can form them into burger patties or small meatballs, it’s up to you.) In a large skillet over medium-high, cook the patties for about two minutes on each side. After cooking, set aside the patties. In the same skillet, add chopped yellow onion. (You can also add the 2 cups of sliced mushroom at this point.) Saute for two to three minutes. Add 1 tbsp beef base followed by 2 cups of water. Mix it to dissolve the beef base.

Step 2

Add the patties back to the pan, then bring them over to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low at this point and let it simmer for about 45 minutes to 1 hour. After 1 hour, add the cornstarch slurry to thicken up the gravy. Give it a good mix to get the slurry well-combined with the gravy. Transfer it to a plate, then serve.
