What is an old-fashioned dish that you always make at home? For me, it is this classic liver and onions recipe. It is easy to prepare and only requires a couple of ingredients. I know liver can be an acquired taste, but if you prepare it correctly, it can taste amazing. Some say that soaking it in milk for 30 to 60 minutes can remove the bitterness!

To make this dish by Original Recipes by Tasting Table, you need salted butter, yellow onion, liver, beef stock, and all-purpose flour. It comes together easily and quickly. Remember not to overcook it. If it is well done, it can taste very bitter. You surely do not want that to happen.
You can serve liver and onions with mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, cucumber salad, rice, grilled asparagus, or broccoli.

Note: When buying liver, choose a firm one with a deep reddish-brown color. It should have minimal to no odor.
Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Melt the butter, then add sliced onion. Cook until softened for about 5 minutes.
Add the liver strips and cook each side for about 5 minutes or until browned.
Once the liver is cooked through, combine 1 tablespoon of all-purpose and 1 tablespoon of beef stock in a small bowl. Mix to form a paste. Add this mixture to the rest of the beef stock. Mix, then pour into the skillet.
Lower the heat to low and let it simmer for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the sauce has slightly thickened.
Serve immediately. Enjoy!
