Maraschino cherries have a special place in my heart. Every Christmas when I was growing up, I always gave a box to my teachers. When you gave a box of chocolate-covered cherries were always a welcome gift to anyone who receives it. Recently,  I found this gorgeous cherry snowball cookie recipe by Best Recipes With Sharon, on YouTube, and it looked like a great gift idea. The recipe is so easy as well, it is like making a regular Pecan Sandie type of cookie but, you wrap the dough around the cherry.

Ingredients For The Cherry Snowball Cookies:

For The Cookie Dough:

  • 1 cup of butter (room temperature, 2 sticks)
  • 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of water
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon of almond extract
  • 1/2 of a teaspoon of salt
  • 1 cup of quick oats
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 36 Maraschino cherries
  • 2 cups of sweetened coconut

For The Icing:

  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup of milk

You begin by making your cookie dough, then you will make circles with the dough, and add a cherry to the middle of the circle. Then you will wrap the dough around your cherry and place these cookie balls on the baking tray.
