How to Make Caramel Pecan Cinnamon Rolls

Step 1:

Make the dough. Add the sugar and warm milk to the bowl of your stand mixer. You can also use a bowl or just on your countertop, just make a well. Mix until the sugar melts. Add the active dry yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes. Make sure that it foams up. If it does not, it means your yeast is dead.

Step 2:

Add room-temperature butter, eggs, salt, and 1/2 cup of flour. Mix well. Gradually, add the remaining flour until it forms a dough. Scrape the sides of the bowl, if needed.

Step 3:

Transfer to your floured surface and knead for a couple of minutes until everything comes together. Do not add too much flour. Form into a loose ball, then place on an oiled bowl. Make sure to get all sides covered with the oil. Cover with a towel then place into a warm spot until it doubles in size.

Step 4:

While waiting for the dough, make the caramel sauce. Melt 6 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan, then add 1 1/4 cups of packed brown sugar, 3 tablespoons of heavy cream, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Turn the heat to medium. Bring it to a bubble, then turn off the heat. Stir well to cool it down.

Step 5:

Pour the cooled caramel sauce into a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Spread it evenly. Sprinkle half a cup of pecan halves. Next, take half a cup of chopped pecans and sprinkle on top.

Step 6:

Carefully remove the dough from the bowl. Gently pat into a square shape, then roll into a 16 x 20 inches rectangle. Spread 6 tablespoons of softened butter on top, except for about an inch-wide strip along the bottom.

Step 7:

Combine the filling ingredients in a bowl, and sprinkle on top of the butter, except for the one-inch strip on the bottom. Gently pat it down.

Step 8:

Carefully roll the dough from the start to the bottom as tight as you can. Seal the bottom by pinching it.

Step 9:

Cut the log into cinnamon rolls using unflavored dental floss. Place them on top of the caramel mixture. Gently press them down.

Step 10:

Preheat your oven to 375F for 10 to 15 minutes, while waiting for the rolls to rise.

Step 11:

After 10 to 15 minutes, bake them in the preheated oven for 18 to 22 minutes until golden brown. Once done baking, take some butter and spread over the top. Let it sit for 10 minutes. To turn them out, place a cookie sheet on top, then using pot holders, carefully turn it over. Gently remove the pan.
