This caramel apple pie roll recipe by Twisted on YouTube has the perfect holiday flavors, so this would be a great holiday dessert to make for a potluck or gathering. I think the presentation of the pie roll looks unique with all of the caramel swirls on the outside. It’s one of those desserts that has a combination of other desserts in one. For example, it’s a cake roll with apple pie filling and caramel drizzle over the icing. So, this would be a cool dessert to make if you like both types of dessert. It’s an easy recipe because it uses a cake box mix.
Ingredients:
- 6 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1 bag vanilla cake mix
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp Allspice
- 1/4 tsp Nutmeg, grated
- icing sugar
- 2 tbsp butter
- caramel sauce
Cinnamon apple filling:
- 5 apples, peeled and diced
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
Icing:
- 1 1/2 cup of heavy cream
- 1 tbsp icing sugar
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
Directions:
First, preheat the oven to 356F and line a 9×13″ baking sheet with parchment paper. Make the pie roll cake batter by watching Twisted’s tutorial on YouTube for full instructions and details. Once the cake is baking and cooled off, make the cinnamon apple filling with the 3 ingredients on a buttered saucepan.
Next, lay the cake flat, and spread apples evenly over the cake, and drizzle with caramel. Roll gently. Then, make the icing and spread over the apple roll cake.
I think it’s interesting that Twisted calls this a “homemade” recipe, but it uses a vanilla cake mix instead of from scratch. The rest of the components such as the filling and icing are homemade. However, if you want this fully homemade and from scratch, make your own cake batter mix. This is overall a great recipe to follow along with.
