You’ve probably tried Swedish meatballs at IKEA. It’s famous all around the world wherever there’s an IKEA store. People always recommend this dish, but why is it so popular? I think the things that make this dish stand out are the spices and gravy. The gravy is incredibly rich, so the addition of allspice and nutmeg to the meatballs balances the flavor perfectly.

For the gravy:
Note: you can also serve it over white rice instead of egg noodles
Start by preheating your oven to 400F, and lightly greasing a baking sheet.
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce, egg yolks, 1/2 teaspoon allspice, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Knead to combine all the ingredients. Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs, then place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Place the baking sheet with the meatballs in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes.
While waiting for the meatballs, make the egg noodles or white rice.
Make the gravy. In a large saucepan, melt the butter, then stir in flour, nutmeg, and allspice. Mix until it forms a paste. Pour the beef broth and 1/4 cup of Worcestershire sauce. Stir and heat it over medium-high heat until the sauce becomes thick. Season it with salt and pepper. Lastly, add the sour cream. Stir until well combined.
Once the meatballs are done baking, add them to the sauce.
Serve over egg noodles, rice, or mashed potatoes. Enjoy!
