There are tons of versions of this classic dish, but this pepper steak recipe by Chef D Wainain is definitely one of the best I have ever tried. It’s bursting with flavors, and the meat and vegetables are perfectly cooked. It has the perfect balance of sweetness, saltiness, and savoriness. Make sure you serve this with freshly cooked rice when you make it at home. Read on or watch the video below for full instructions.

Pat dry the steak with a paper towel. Cut into strips across the grain.
Season with salt and black pepper. Next, sprinkle rice flour and toss everything until well-coated.
Place a pan over heat and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. Once hot, add the beef strips in a single layer and cook until browned on all sides. Make sure not to overcook them. Set aside.
In the same pan, add the vegetables and season with salt and pepper. Mix and cook until slightly softened. Next, add the garlic, ginger, and tomato paste. Cook for a few seconds. You can add extra vegetable oil if needed.
Bring back the cooked beef strips. Add the tamari sauce, balsamic vinegar, sesame oil, honey, and a splash of water. Mix until well incorporated. Cook for a few seconds then turn off the heat.
Garnish the pepper steak with chopped scallions and cilantro. Mix and serve with rice. Enjoy!
