Materials:

  • 2¾ yards of black background fabric
  • 10 colorful fat quarters
  • 2/3 yard of binding fabric
  • 4¾ yard of backing fabric
  • Fusible web
  • Iron, for pressing
  • Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
  • Sewing machine
  • Pattern (click here to download the pattern for free)

Directions:

Step 1

The first thing that you have to do is to download and print out the pattern including the instructions, then cut your fabrics according to what is said in the guide. Make sure to attach the fusible web on the wrong side of each colorful fabric, then give them a good press. Lay the black strips on the top and bottom of your large blue fabric, then place the 1½-inch piece at the top, and the 2½-inch piece at the bottom, and sew them all together.

Step 2

Trace the crayon tip template on a black fabric strip, then cut them out, and place 2 matching pieces on each side of one crayon tip. Sew them together, then give the ma good press. Start cutting the body of the crayons, then remove the backing paper of the small curved pieces, then attach them to the body, and stitch them in place. Next, stitch the tip of the crayon to the body either at the top or the bottom and make alternate pieces with one pointing up and the other pointing down. Sew the rows together, then add the border.
