Wow, I have never seen onion rings that looked like this! When I saw this video recipe tutorial by Cooking With Shotgun Red on Youtube, I knew these onion rings had been taken to a whole new level. This idea is basically an onion ring recipe taken to the maximum limits of rich flavorful goodness. When I first saw this recipe, I thought it was just onions dipped in beer and fried, but then Shotgun Red made a beer batter and deep-fried the cold-soaked, already-floured onion rings they turned out so beautiful I was amazed! These onion rings are the most delicious looking things I have ever seen. I am planning on making a few batches for the 4th of July celebration I am planning on the Blanco River in the Texas Hill Country.

Ingredients:

  • Cold water (in a large bowl, also add ice)
  • Some large onions (sweet onions are best)

The Beer Batter Recipe:

  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup of cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of white pepper
  • 1 cup of very cold beer
  • Add the beer very slowly until the batter is a little bit thinner than pancake batter
