Ingredients:

  • beef chuck, well-marbled
  • salt
  • ground black pepper
  • olive oil
  • 2 onions
  • 7 cloves of garlic
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 5 tbsp plain flour
  • 200 ml dry red wine
  • 700 ml water
  • 2 beef stock cubes
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp marjoram
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 4 carrots, cut into large chunks
  • white small potatoes, cut into large chunks

Directions:

Step 1

To start, cut your beef chuck into bite-size pieces, then season generously with salt and ground black pepper. Next, heat some olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat, then brown the seasoned meat in batches. After this, prep and chop the remaining ingredients and set them aside. In the same pan, saute the chopped onions until brown, then add the cloves of garlic. Add 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar and continue to cook for five minutes.

Step 2

Once done, transfer the sauteed onions and garlic to a saucepan along with the browned meat. Add 5 tbsp plain flour and mix until the flour is no longer visible. Next, add 200 ml of dry red wine, and 2 dissolved beef stock cubes in 700 ml of hot water. Mix well, then add 2 bay leaves, 1 tsp marjoram, 1 tsp paprika, and 1 tbsp tomato paste. Continue mixing until everything is well combined. Cover the pot with its lid and let it simmer for 90 minutes.

Step 3

After 90 minutes, add the chopped carrots as well as the potatoes. Mix, and continue to simmer for another 90 minutes. Once done, transfer to a serving plate, then serve.
