  • 1.3 lb of brussels sprouts
  • 1 1/4 cups of milk
  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 1/2 cup of flour
  • 1.4 ounces of parmesan cheese
  • 1.4 ounces of breadcrumbs
  • chives
  • salt
  • olive oil
  • 1 egg

Step 1:

Slice the bottom part of the brussels sprouts and peel the outer leaf. Once done, place them in a pot. Fill it with water then add 1 teaspoon of salt.  Cook them for about 15 minutes. Strain them and discard the water.

Step 2:

In a medium-sized pot, add 2 tablespoons of butter and 1/2 cup of flour. Mix until well combined. Next, pour 1 and 1/4 cups of milk. Let it simmer and continuously stir until it thickens. Once thick, remove it from heat and set it aside to let it cool.

Step 3:

Slice the chives into small pieces, then grate the parmesan cheese. When the sauce is cold, add 1 egg and mix it well.

Step 4:

Grease your baking dish with olive oil. Scoop some of the sauce and put it onto the bottom of the dish. Spread evenly using a spoon to make a thin layer. Add the cooked brussels sprouts and arrange them in a single layer. Pour the remaining sauce and spread. Sprinkle the chives and breadcrumbs on top. Lastly, add the grated parmesan cheese.

Step 5:

Place it in the oven with the cooling rack in the middle. Bake it at 356F for about 15 to 20 minutes or until browned. Once done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a while. Slice then serve. Enjoy!
