This blazing star quilt block by Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting on YouTube is one of the prettiest quilts I’ve ever seen recently. I love how the colors are incorporated together and they work so perfectly with the design of the quilt block.

This pattern would be great to use for a quilted table topper, table runner, pot holder, or even pillowcases. It’s very fun to make and poses challenges to quilters but not complicated enough to discourage beginners. You better try it to see for yourself!
Materials for Blazing Star Quilt Block:
- Green fabric
- Yellow fabric
- Blue fabric
- Marking pen, pencil, or chalk
- Ruler
- Scissors or rotary cutter and a cutting mat
- Fabric pins
- Needle and thread
- Iron, for pressing
- Sewing machine

How to Make Blazing Star Quilt Block:
Step 1
Cut the fabric into strips, then sew the blue and green strips together, and make a set combining yellow and green strips. Press the seams toward the green fabric, then cut the edges of the green-yellow strips at an angle, and continue cutting diagonally until you have 8 slanted strip units as shown in the video.
Step 2
Do the same for the blue and green strip unit but make sure to cut the angle oppositely, then match the two different slanted strips together to form it into a diamond, and stitch them with ¼ inch seam allowance. Do this for the rest of the strip units, then pair 2 and arrange them so they look like an arrow, and fill the space between them with a blue square.
Step 3
Stitch them to each other, then trim off the dog ears, and press nicely. Make 3 more sets, then cut a large square into 4 trianges, and arrange everything into a block as demonstrated in the video. Stitch them together one at a time and press the seams as you go.
