What I love about quilting is the process of piecing together small fabrics and creating an intricate design with them, and the fact that those small pieces can create a large project that you can turn into various quilted items such as table toppers, table runners, blankets, etc.

Any quilt block that you made can turn into a cute coaster with just a few simple steps. All you need is some batting and backing fabric (leftovers would work, too), and of course, you would need this easy-to-follow video tutorial by Melanie Ham on YouTube.
Step 1
Make a quilt topper first, any design that you want, or make a star topper. First, create 4 flying geese units, then put all 4 units around a center fabric, and fill the empty corners with your background fabric squares.
Step 2
Stitch them per row, then the rows to each other, then square the block and press it nicely. Lay your backing fabric down on your work surface with its right side facing up, then place the quilt topper over it making sure the right sides are facing, and put a batting piece at the very top.
Step 3
Stitch around the edges with ¼ inch seam allowance leaving a gap for turning later, then trim the corners at an angle to reduce the bulk, and turn it right side out through the hole.
Step 4
Poke the corners and edges nicely, then press the entire piece down, and tuck the edges of the opening before pressing it down once more. Topstitch all the way around making sure to sew really close to the edges. Your coaster is now done and ready for use!
