Have you ever wondered how to pick less spicy jalapeño? If you are, you are on the right page. I planned to make stuffed jalapeno peppers last weekend, and I didn’t want to make them spicy as I am not good at tolerating spice. A friend told me to pick the mild ones, but I didn’t have any idea what to look for, so I did some research and found this simple trick to picking a spicy or less spicy jalapeño pepper via Rachael Ray Show‘s YouTube channel.

Jalapeños are popular in different cuisines. Different food and drink recipes use this as the main ingredient. If you really love spicy food, you can leave the seeds and veins, but if not, make sure to remove them before using. If you can’t handle too much spice, pick jalapenos that are average in size, and have smooth and shiny skin. This means that they are younger. It gives a nice kick that is not too spicy. See photo below for reference.
If you want a spicy jalapeno, choose the one that is larger, more mature, and has lines. The yellowish or brownish lines are called heat cracks. The cracks are a sign of maturity. Peppers have them if they experience long periods of rain followed by prolonged sunlight. You’ll see them most in older peppers. If it has more white lines, the hotter it will probably be. This type will give you the punch that you are looking for. See the photo below for reference. Look for these peppers if you want your meals to be extra spicy.
